Grenache

Barossa Valley Grenache is renowned for its vibrant red fruit flavours and aromatic complexity. In our Block 3, the Grenache vines thrive in sandy soils, producing wines that are bright, juicy, and layered with notes of raspberry, cherry, and subtle spice. The warm climate and careful vineyard management result in wines with a medium body, soft tannins, and a lingering finish. Our Grenache offerings showcase the varietal’s versatility and the unique terroir of our vineyard.

Shiraz

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in the Barossa Valley’s warm climate, developing deep, rich fruit profiles of blackcurrant, plum, and dark chocolate, complemented by fine tannins and earthy undertones. Our Block 4, situated in the cooler Lyndoch sub-region, offers a unique microclimate that allows for extended ripening, resulting in exceptional complexity and an exotic character. Comparing vintages side-by-side offers a fascinating glimpse into how weather patterns shape wine character in a Single Vineyard. There is no right or wrong—only the personal connection you might feel with a particular year’s expression. Perhaps you’ll discover your “lucky vintage” among our collection—the one that speaks directly to your palate and captures your heart.

2018

The growing seasons started off well, with winter 2017 rainfall higher than average but spring rainfall was lower than average. Drier soils, combined with warmer than average October and November days meant the vine canopies grew quickly. January and February were warm and dry. With summer rainfall 50% of average, we managed the soil moisture, and experienced less stress and subsequently delivered sound fruit and consistent yields.

2019

Barossa’s 2019 wines will be sought out early, following the lowest yielding but possibly the highest quality vintage of the past decade. After a very dry winter and spring, frost disrupted budburst and flowering. This was followed by hot, very dry conditions with 11 days over 35°C in January. The lower yields will result with great colour, intense flavours and firm tannin structure.

2020

Despite challenging growing conditions in 2020, the vintage in Monteperle Vineyard shows promising results. While yields were generally below average, the concentration of the wines is exceptional, particularly for Shiraz and Grenache, which exhibit outstanding flavours and colours. Late January and February brought some relief with cooler temperatures and rain, allowing for better grape ripening and resulting in a vintage that, although smaller in quantity, is notable for its high quality.

2021

The 2021 Barossa Valley vintage benefited from favourable conditions, marking an improvement after two dry years. Increased rainfall, mild summer temperatures, and optimal January ripening conditions enhanced grape development. Beneficial weather during flowering and early February aided bunch setting and berry growth. An extended harvest period due to a dry Indian summer resulted in exceptional quality wines across varieties and styles. All these factors have made 2021 a standout vintage for Monteperle wines.

2022

The 2022 vintage at Monteperle Vineyard showed remarkable resilience amid regional challenges. While frost and hail damaged much of Barossa Valley, Monteperle was protected by its early bud burst timing. The vineyard benefited from good winter rainfall, mild temperatures, and effective disease management. These conditions, along with a gradual ripening period without extreme heat, created excellent fruit development. The harvest yielded outstanding grapes, producing wines with distinctive character and complexity that highlight this vintage's unique qualities.
