Formative Years

Tony began his winemaking journey at Tahbilk Wines, one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, where he developed a deep appreciation for tradition and site-driven wine. He went on to work with respected winemakers Tim Knappstein and Steve Pannell in the Clare Valley, refining his practical and technical skills. These early roles shaped his winemaking philosophy: let the vineyard speak. Today, that mindset remains central to Monteperle, where Tony focuses on crafting expressive wines that capture the unique terroir of each vineyard block.
Leadership Experience

In 2000, Tony was tasked with establishing Palandri Wines in Margaret River—transforming a bare site into a fully operational winery. Overseeing winemakers, cellar hands, and grower relations, he learnt how to scale quality production while preserving attention to detail. That leadership experience proved vital when Monteperle began as a blank canvas: a vineyard with no existing winery. Tony’s ability to guide infrastructure, team, and wine style from scratch makes him the ideal architect behind Monteperle’s success.

Monteperle Era

Tony joined Monteperle as Chief Winemaker in 2017, drawn to the opportunity to build something meaningful from the soil up. With no cellar door or winery in place, he focused entirely on the fruit—unlocking the potential of each block through sustainable vineyard practices and careful site selection. His vision, patience, and precision were instrumental in defining Monteperle’s signature: cellar-worthy wines with purity, structure, and place. From the debut GSM to award-winning reserve releases, his touch is in every bottle.
